Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been hospitalized after sustaining an injury from a fall during an official trip to Luxembourg. According to a spokesperson for the House of Representatives, Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.

Pelosi, 84, was part of a congressional delegation that traveled to Europe to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Her spokesperson, Ian Krager, stated that she is unable to attend the remaining events scheduled during her trip due to her injury.

While Krager did not provide further details about the nature of Pelosi’s injury, sources familiar with the situation reported that she tripped and fell while attending an event with other members of Congress. Another source indicated that Pelosi suffered a hip injury.

Pelosi’s colleagues, including Representative Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas, have expressed their well-wishes for her speedy recovery. McCaul posted on social media that he was “praying for a speedy recovery” for Pelosi.

This incident marks another challenge for Pelosi, who has faced her share of difficulties in recent years. Her husband, Paul, was attacked with a hammer at their home in San Francisco two years ago. The perpetrator was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

Despite stepping down from her leadership position two years ago, Pelosi remains active in Congress, representing her San Francisco district. She has continued to work behind the scenes with Democrats and attend formal events, including the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington over the weekend.

Pelosi’s injury comes on the heels of another high-profile incident involving Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who suffered a sprained wrist and cut to his cheek after tripping and falling in the Senate.

Pelosi, in the current term, has been a frequent if informal adviser to her successor, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who christened her with the honorary title of “Speaker Emerita” two years ago.

She is also among the fiercest Trump critics, particularly after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and at least part of her impetus for remaining in Congress was to fight to ensure that the former president doesn’t win a second term. Pelosi’s prodigious fundraising helped in that effort.

In challenging Pelosi, Lou, who’s in his late 20s, had argued that San Francisco was ready for a younger generation to take over. San Francisco voters had a resounding reply: Not yet.
